Dublin

December 7, 2023

No alarm this morning as we are just staying in Dublin. We left the hotel later in the morning to head to Mailboxes ETC to ship home gifts. That works out very nice, not having to worry about customs at the airport. We then walked to the EPIC Immigration Museum. A very nice tour and introduction to Ireland and its immigration. We ate at UpShoots which was in the atrium next to the museum. The kiosk outside was not working. You did not find that out until the end, so we just ordered at the counter. The salads were very tasty. Turns out that they put the dressing in the rice on the bottom of the bowl.

We took the tram back to our hotel. I tried to use the 72 hour Leap Card, but it was not working. So, we purchased tickets for the tram at the pay station, and away we went. Stopped at Butlers Chocolate Cafe next to the hotel for some chocolate. Next we went to the Padison & Yule Christmas shop. Very nice. I talked with the owner a bit. He does the fall and Christmas setups, while his wife does the spring and summer. He said they don’t build the models as they don’t have the time, and there are lots of fiddly bits. And he is working on their online presence, so he is very busy.

After that we went to Dublin Castle to see the Christmas Market there. Fun to see. We toured Dublin Castle. Not as ornate as the British castles, but very nice. We then toured the Chester Beatty, a large collection of items collected by Charles Beatty. Some very interesting items.

We stopped in SPAR on Dame Street to find something for supper. I did, but Gwyn did not. On the way back we passed the Street Food Factory on Crown Alley and she got chicken on skewers and chips. We took our suppers back to the hotel and ate them there, watching Friends.
